At Northern Flame, we pride ourselves on efficient, professional stove installations completed in just one day—without compromising on quality. Whether you’re upgrading your fireplace or installing a stove for the first time, here’s exactly what you can expect.

1. Pre-Installation Consultation

Before installation day, we conduct a thorough site survey to:

  • Assess your chimney and flue requirements

  • Check ventilation and hearth compliance

  • Discuss stove options, fuel types, and aesthetics

  • Confirm HETAS regulations are met

This visit typically takes 30–60 minutes and ensures everything runs smoothly on the day.

2. Arrival and Setup (8:30–9:00 AM)

Our experienced team arrives on time, fully equipped, and ready to go. We:

  • Protect your flooring and furniture with dust sheets

  • Prepare tools and materials

  • Brief you on the day’s schedule

Our goal is minimal disruption with a clean, efficient process.

3. Removing the Old Fireplace or Surround (if applicable)

If you have an existing fire or surround, we carefully remove it. This can include:

  • Dismantling gas or electric fires

  • Disconnecting and capping off services

  • Removing old hearths or surrounds

We always check for structural soundness before proceeding.

4. Creating or Opening the Chamber

We open up the fireplace recess (if required), which may involve:

  • Knocking back the brickwork

  • Installing a concrete lintel for support

  • Rendering or boarding the interior of the chamber

We aim to complete this by midday, depending on the chamber’s size and condition.

5. Flue and Chimney Work

This is where expertise really counts. We:

  • Inspect and sweep the chimney

  • Install a flexible stainless steel liner or twin-wall flue system

  • Fit a register plate, vitreous enamel pipe, and stove collar

️ We also check for proper draw and ensure compliance with HETAS regulations.

6. Hearth Installation

If a new hearth is needed:

  • We level and bed the hearth (usually slate, granite, or glass)

  • Ensure it meets building regs for distance-to-combustibles and projection

This is cut and fitted to precision before the stove is positioned.

7. Stove Placement and First Firing

We place the stove, connect it to the flue, and carry out:

  • Smoke draw and leak tests

  • Sealant application where needed

  • First burn to cure the paint and demonstrate operation

We’ll show you how to light it, control the air supply, and maintain it.

8. Cleanup and Certification (by 5:00 PM)

We leave your home tidy and ready to enjoy:

  • Clear away dust and debris

  • Remove waste materials

  • Provide your HETAS certificate of compliance

You’ll receive a short handover pack with maintenance advice, fuel recommendations, and operating tips.
